Semester Homework Assignment

TO:  PARENT/GUARDIAN OF GATE STUDENTS IN FIRST AND SECOND GRADES:

RE:  Required outside reading assignment for CHALLENGE AND TALENT     DEVELOPMENT students during fall semester 2016.

The goals of the outside reading assignment are to encourage students to read a variety of books, to develop responsibility, to practice time management skills, and to aid the student in being an active participant in the school’s Accelerated Reading Program.  

GATE student must read at least 10 books and complete one written and orally presented book report this semester. 

The students are to keep a record of the books they read by recording them on the READING LOG FORM.  The Reading Log Form is attached.  The Reading Log may be turned in before the due date but it will not be accepted after the deadline, DECEMBER _________2016.    

The student may choose among the attached list of book report presentation ideas.  I know they will do an excellent job with their report.    

Their written/oral book report presentation is due:

I need your support to encourage your child to read nightly.  Please help your child keep up with recording the books they read on the provided Reading Log as the books are read.  I need an adult to sign each entry to indicate your supervision.  If a child reads a book for their homeroom teacher it may be included on this Reading Log also.  I know the students can plan their reading time and meet these expectations. 

            REQUIRED READING LOG IS DUE BY DECEMBER _____________2016

The Reading Log may be turned in early but it will not be accepted after the due date.
